East Jerusalemites finally start receiving mail

Israel Post has set up mail distribution centers in East Jerusalem.

Israel Postal Company Ltd. Post has set up mail distribution centers in East Jerusalem at an investment of millions of shekels. The centers were established following the order of the High Court of Justice and intervention by the Association of Civil Rights in Israel. They are the result of the work by an inter-ministerial team on the subject.

The distribution of mail in East Jerusalem would not have been carried out were it not for the intervention by the Association of Civil Rights, which petitioned the High Court of Justice, and has waged a long campaign to arrange mail delivery in East Jerusalem. One of the biggest problems in East Jerusalem is not only that residents cannot receive mail, but that there are no street names or house numbers.

The staff work by inter-ministerial team headed by Ministry of Communications deputy director general for mail Yigal Levy is working on the matter. Several weeks ago, the first results were seen, with the establishment of mail distribution centers, which will initially serve 50,000 of East Jerusalem's 250,000 residents.
