El Al plane makes emergency landing at Ben Gurion

The low-cost UP flight was headed for Prague, but returned to Tel Aviv when tire damage was discovered after takeoff.

There was major drama at Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv this morning when an UP aircraft, the low-cost carrier of El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL), took off for Prague with a damaged tire. The plane returned to Israel and carried out a successful emergency landing at Ben Gurion.

Shortly after the El Al 717-800 flight 2521 took off for Prague with 174 passengers on board, pieces of tire were found on the runway. El Al said that it decided to bring the plane back to Ben Gurion Airport in order to repair the tire.

The emergency teams at the airport were prepared and on high alert, and at 10.16 am, the aircraft landed safely.

El Al said, “Flight safety is El Al highest priority, and the company does not compromise on matters big or small.”
