Former Olmert aide gets 11 months in jail

Judge David Rozen agreed to the plea bargain for Shula Zaken.

Tel Aviv District Court Judge David Rozen today accepted the plea bargain with Shula Zaken, the office manager for former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, sentencing her to eleven months in jail, a NIS 25,000 fine and NIS 75,000 foreclosure. She will begin her sentence in September. Under the plea bargain, Zaken was convicted of accepting hundreds of thousands of shekels in bribes and gifts from the late state's witness in the Holyland case.

"Rozen lambasted Zaken saying, "Zaken acted traitorously, abetting Olmert as a partner in crime. She acted out of greed… were it not for the plea bargain, she would have been sentenced to many years in jail. No real consideration should be given to her confession in the plea bargain. She would have been convicted in trial in any case. The evidence she gave was anchored in the evidentiary basis that resulted in Olmert's conviction for bribery. With all due respect, the extra evidence was not needed in view Olmert's conviction."
