Municipal officials said the city agreed on the project with the housing cabinet and will fast-track its construction.

Hadera municipal officials said on Wednesday the city agreed with the housing cabinet on the construction of 6,000 residential units and commercial and employment centers south-east of the Beit Eliezer neighborhood.

Hadera Mayor Zvi Gendelman met with housing cabinet chief Avigdor Yitzhaki to discuss the project, with the participation of professional experts, representatives of the district committee, and the Israel Land Authority. During the meetings, the city presented its plans for the development of infrastructure catering to residences, industry, and employers alongside the dire need for housing because much of the property in Hadera was in private hands.

Under the framework of the meetings, the Israel Land Authority rezoned the area from its original use for agriculture to its future use as a residential area.

It was concluded the municipality would work with the Israel Land Authority to develop the property while Yitzhaki will advance the project with the national planning and building committee which approves large plans for residential projects under the ‘buyers price’ framework and with tighter timetables in an attempt to alleviate the Israeli housing crisis.

Mayor Gendelman supports the project but places a strong emphasis on providing adequate transportation solutions access roads, an additional Highway 6 junction, another Route 65 junction, and a light rail option from Beit Eliezer to the beach.

The housing cabinet also supports the project and is expected to encourage its advancement with an aid package to prepare urban infrastructure for the additional needs of thousands of new homes.
