IEC CEO Glickman has ordered all managers to report to work on pain of dismissal.

The workers are not the only strikers at Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22); senior management is also participating, including department managers and higher officers.

After the IEC workers committee announced an immediate general strike yesterday, IEC CEO Eli Glickman today ordered the company management, from the department manager level and upwards, to report for work. At the same time, he demanded that the process of switching senior managers at the company to personal contracts and signing a contract in the near future should begin immediately. He added that any manager who refuses will face disciplinary measures, up to possible dismissal.

IEC chairman Yiftah Ron-Tal commented on the strike, referring to it as a wildcat strike. "Beyond that, there is an element of violence here. And for what? For the tenure of workers at IEC." He added that company management had found a solution for those workers, and was offering to continue their employment for a certain period.

The IEC workers committee yesterday declared a general strike of all IEC tenured workers. Thousands of employees left their workplaces as a result, and the company is in effect operating on a weekend format. The official reason for the strike involves tenure for temporary workers at the company, but in the background is the hiatus in negotiations on structural change at the company and the consequences of that for the company's financial position and the ability of the power production industry sector to function.
