The police accuse Bentzi Lieberman of helping Kardan executive Nachum Langental in promoting construction projects.

Assistance in extending the lease of Kardan NV (TASE: KRNV;AEX:KARD) on Kardan House in Tel Aviv, and promoting a residential project of the company in Lod: these are the two matters in which Israel Land Authority director-general Bentzi Lieberman is suspected of offenses of fraud and breach of trust.

On Thursday, Lieberman was questioned for ten hours by investigators of the Israel Police National Fraud Investigation Unit. He was subsequently placed under five days house arrest. He denies the offenses attributed to him. Lieberman's associates have told the media that all his decisions were made transparently and that the public interest was uppermost in his mind.

The other suspect in the affair, former National Religious Party (now merged into Habayit Hayehudi) MK Adv. Nachum Langental, a former partner of Lieberman, is also under five days house arrest. He too denies the accusations made against him. Langental is a senior manager at Kardan Real Estate Enterprise and Development Ltd. Langenthal's lawyers, Adv. Navit Negev and Adv. Iris Niv-Sabag, said, "Adv. Nachum Langental acted blamelessly in his public roles, and he acts the same way now in his private capacity. Since Adv. Langental acted in good faith and does not have, and never has had, anything to hide, he cooperated with the investigation and provided detailed answers to every question that arose."
