Kahlon to appoint Shai Babad as Israel's Treasury chief

The 38 year-old previously headed Israel's Second Authority for TV and Radio.

Minister of Finance designate Moshe Kahlon is set to appoint Shai Babad as his director general. Sources inform "Globes" that Babad will hold working sessions over the next few days with the senior echelon at the Ministry of Finance ahead of becoming the new director general.

Babad was one of many candidates considered for the job and some have suggested that at 38 he is too young for such a position of responsibility and far-reaching authority.

Babad was appointed by then Minister of Communications Kahlon to head Israel's Second Authority for Television and Radio. He quit the job unexpectedly after 18 months, and before a replacement could be found for him, in order to join Kahlon's party.

Babad previously held senior management positions with Zim Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. including Zim Israel CEO. He has an LL.B. and BA Economics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and an MA in Economics and Financing from the London School of Economics.
