Of the two separate corporations, only one will be allowed to broadcast news and current events.

The Knesset plenum today passed an amendment to the Public Broadcasting Law by a vote of 43-33.

The amendment, a compromise between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon, splits the new Israel Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) into two separate corporations, only one of which will be allowed to broadcast news and current events. A new management and council will be appointed for the new corporation. IBC CEO Eldad Koblenz and chairman Gil Omer will have no influence on news and current events.
