Knesset mulls price controls for airport food, drink

Coffee costs NIS 16 per cup and sandwiches NIS 31 at Ben Gurion Airport.

The end may be near for exorbitant food and drink prices at Ben Gurion Airport. Typically a cup of coffee can cost NIS 15-16 at Arcaffe and Aroma and a sandwich NIS 31. But after years of high prices, the Knesset Public Petitions Committee today agreed to consider price controls for food and drink at the airport.

Committee chairman MK Adi Koll (Yesh Atid) wondered if it was possible to lower coffee prices at Ben Gurion as CoFix had done, and whether the Israel Airports Authority could dictate sane prices through supervision as happens at universities on products such as bottles of water.
