The service will enable a subscriber to make calls on their handset through a Wi-Fi network.

Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) will shortly launch an Internet-based call service for its mobile subscribers. The service, to be called Wi-Fi Calling, will enable a Partner subscriber to make and receive calls on their handset in places where it identifies cellular reception problems but is connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) mobile telephony subsidiary Pelephone recently launched a similar service called Connect, but Wi-Fi Calling is different in that it uses a feature built into the network from Ericsson. Pelephone's solution, launched together with AudioCodes Ltd. (Nasdaq: AUDC; TASE: AUDC), is an application that the subscribers download to their handsets and through which calls are switched between networks. No application download is required for the Partner solution, which on the handset side uses an inbuilt feature of the Android and iOS operating systems.
