Finance Committee chairman: Threatening layoffs as a means of pressure is scandalous.

In today's Knesset Finance Committee discussion of the Sheshinski bill, which will raise the state's take from expoitation of natural resources, the chairman of the Dead Sea Magnesium workers committee said that the company was about to close down, and asked the MKs to intervene.

His comments come on top of threats by Israel Chemicals (TASE: ICL: NYSE: ICL) chairman Nir Gilad to lay off workers and halt investments in Israel.

Knesset Finance Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni severely criticized Israel Chemicals management, saying that it was scandalous that people in Israel Chemicals were trying to pressure MKS during the legislative process at the workers' expense.

"I understand Hebrew, and I know that it's your language," Gafni said. "It won't happen. We won't let you do harm to the workers and try to exert pressure by threatening layoffs."
