80 year-old Zvi Bar was also fined NIS 1.5 million on graft charges.

"The Court must combat corruption and cleanse the local authorities from graft and nepotism. This can only be done through painful punishment, not by preaching morality in words. The message in the verdict must be sharp and clear: no more corruption," Tel Aviv District Court Judge Zvi Gurfinkel said today when he sentenced 80 year-old legendary former Ramat Gan Mayor Zvi Bar to a five and a half years prison term for taking a NIS 2 million bribe from Ramat Gan real estate developers. He also levied a NIS 1.5 million fine, and ruled that NIS 1 million of his money would be confiscated.

The State prosecutor asked the Court to sentence Bar to 7-9 years.
