Elbit Systems inaugurates new space camera lab

The company invested tens of millions of shekels over three years in the Daniel laboratory.

Elbit Systems Ltd. (Nasdaq: ESLT; TASE: ESLT) has inaugurated the Daniel national laboratory for the development of space cameras at the premises of its El-Op subsidiary at the Ness Ziona Science Park. The company invested tens of millions of shekels over three years in the laboratory.

The Ministry of Defense shared in the financing of the laboratory, which will serve the needs of Israel's space programs over the coming decades.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the municipalities of Ness Ziona and Rehovot, and Elbit executives attended the inauguration.

Elbit Systems said that the laboratory will apply state-of-the-art space camera technologies to meet the growing needs of high-resolution space images. It added that the laboratory building was designed and built with the application of 20 years of accumulated know-how in space camera operations and to take into account developments expected over the coming decades.

The new laboratory will soon house the Jupiter program to develop a high-resolution space camera for a satellite now under development at Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1). Cameras jointly developed by Elbit System and El-Op are used by Israel's Ofek and Eros series of satellites.
