Court finds medical residents' mass resignation illegal

In response, dozens of residents have submitted personal resignation letters.

The National Labor Court today ruled that the mass resignation by medical residents is illegal. The court, headed by President Nili Arad, said that the resignation was not an authentic act by people seeking to terminate their employment, but a collective industrial action aimed at pressuring the government and the Israel Medical Association.

During Thursday evening's hearing, Judge Amiram Rabinovich, "A person who wants to quit, resigns; he does not make conditions."

If the residents, most of whom work in central Israel, choose to pursue their struggle, they have two options: appeal to the Supreme Court, or submit personal letters of resignation, without the involvement of any organization and without and conditions for their return to work.

In response dozens of residents have already submitted personal letters of resignation, which cannot be blocked as it would infringe on the freedom of occupation.
