Medical residents, Treasury sign contract

The parties agreed to review the previously signed nine-year doctors labor agreement at its mid-point.

Medical residents and the Ministry of Finance signed a new labor contract at 4 am today, four months after the residents submitted mass resignations. In yesterday's vote, 269 residents voted in favor of the agreement and 163 voted against. Most of the opponents work at Sourasky Medical Center Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

The new agreement does not reopen the agreement signed in August between the Israel Medical Association and the Ministry of Finance, which will be in force for nine years. The parties agreed, however, to review the agreement, at its mid-point. The parties also agreed to set up an enforcement mechanism to ensure that residents will not work more than six shifts a month. Residents will also receive tens of thousands of shekels in grants during their residency.
