Many residents of the Greater Tel Aviv metropolitan area have been complaining today about a foul smell of chlorine and gas in the air. The smell is mainly affecting the city and northwards to Herzliya. Municipal lines have been clogged with callers complaining.
Channel 2 reports that the source of the smell is from pesticides that were sprayed on land near Kfar Hayarok between Tel Aviv and Ramat Hasharon.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection said that they had sent inspectors to the area to check out the complaints. The ministry declined to give further details other than to say that urgent tests were being carried out and preliminary results show that there is no danger to the public.
One Tel Aviv resident said that he was scared to light his cigarette.
