Kahlon relinquishes handling of HOT due to family connections

The Knesset has transferred authority for dealing with HOT from Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon to Diaspora Affairs Minister Yuli Edelstein.

The Knesset has transferred authority for dealing with HOT Telecommunication Systems Ltd. (TASE: HOT) from Minister of Communications Moshe Kahlon to Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein, due to concern about a possible conflict of interest by Kahlon who has a sister working at HOT. The vote on the government's request was 30:17, and no abstentions.

Before his appointment as minister of communications, Kahlon said that his sister worked at HOT, and that he would voluntarily forgo handling any specific issues in which there might be a conflict of interest.

MK Meir Sheetrit (Kadima) said that, as a member of the opposition, he should support transferring the authority from Kahlon, but believes that the issue came up because of special interests, because Kahlon is trying to help the public by cutting prices for telecommunications services.
