Police investigate bribery allegations at IEC

A buyer at Israel Electric Corporation is supected of taking bribes to fix tenders.

Bribery is suspected at Israel Electric Corporation (IEC). The Israel Police fraud unit is investigating suspicions that Yaakov Gutmacher, a buyer in the IEC's procurement department, took hundreds of thousands of shekels in bribes to fix tenders.

The police suspect that Gutmacher took bribes in about 200 instances over the years. The police investigation began following a complaint against Gutmacher by IEC in December 2011.

Gutmacher was suspended from his job at IEC two months ago. He appealed against the suspension to the Labor Court, and at the hearing the bribery suspicions were revealed.
