Israel Business Conference hosts top int'l economists

The festive opening of the conference, on the first night of Hanukah, included dinner for an array of prominent overseas guests.

It was an especially festive opening for the "Globes" 2012 Israel Business Conference at the David Intercontinental Hotel in Tel Aviv last night, with the lighting of the first Hanukah candle. The conference opened with a gala event that included dinner for the speakers, followed by cocktails and the candle lighting ceremony.

Foreign speakers included Dr. José Viñals, financial counselor and director, at the IMF Monetary and Capital Markets Department; Dr. Fatih Birol, chief economist and director, Global Energy Economics, International Energy Agency; Dr. Hans-Paul Bürkner, president and CEO, Boston Consulting Group, a leading international consulting firm; Richard Quest, CNN's top business host; Governor of the Czech National Bank Dr. Miroslav Singer, Prof. Tyler Cowen of George Mason University, who has been named by "The Economist" as one of the most influential economists of the past decade; Liz Gannes, business technology at AllThingsD, a leading global online publication; Kobi Faigenbaum, CEO, UBS Wealth Management Israel Ltd.; Ambassador Carlos Pascual, Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs for US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton; Dr. Peter Jarrett, head of the OECD Economics Department and an author of its review on the Israeli economy; and Nobel Prize Laureate for Economics Prof. Myron Scholes, and a co-developer of the Black and Scholes option pricing model.

The conference's first day opened this morning with remarks by President Shimon Peres, el Aviv-Jaffa Mayor Ron Huldai; Bank Hapoalim CEO Zion Kenan; and former Prime Minister Ehud .
