The average gross national salary fell by an annualized 0.9% in November 2012-January 2013 to NIS 9,159 (in constant prices).

The average gross national salary fell by an annualized 0.9% in November 2012-January 2013 to NIS 9,159 (in constant prices), after rising by an annualized 2.3% in August-October, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported today. The numbers came in a bit late for Minister of Finance Yair Lapid, whose Facebook posting about Ms. Riki Cohen of Hadera and her husband who earn NIS 20,000 a month were supposed to represent Israel's middle class.

Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22), Mekorot National Water Company and municipal water companies employees had an average gross salary of NIS 16,882 in January, in second place behind the average salary of NIS 24,514 for mining and quarrying employees, most of whom work for Israel Chemicals Ltd. (TASE: ICL). Information and communications employees are in third place, with an average salary of NIS 16,472; followed by financial sector employees, with an average salary of NIS 15,143. At the bottom of the rankings, as always, are catering and accommodation employees, with an average salary of NIS 3,497.

The number of salaried employees rose by 0.6% in January, to 3.12 million people.
