Israel signs R&D agreement with Indian state of Karnataka

The first such agreement of its kind between Israel and an Indian state will fund joint projects between Israeli and Karnataka companies.

Israel and the Indian state of Karnataka have signed an R&D cooperation agreement. This is the first-ever such agreement between Israel and an Indian state. The agreement aims to further bilateral business, technology, and economic relations and sees Israel benefiting from Karnataka's human resources and the Indian state benefitting from Israel's innovations.

The agreement was announced at the Karnataka-Israel R&D Cooperation Program workshop, which was jointly organized by India's department of science and technology, the government of Karnataka and MATIMOP (Israeli Industry Centre for R&D), which negotiates bilateral science and technology agreements on behalf of the chief scientist of the ministry of economy.

The agreement will facilitate financial support worth millions of dollars for cooperative research and development projects between Israeli and Karnataka companies. Karnataka is in the southwest of India with Bangalore, the center of Indian high tech as its capital.

MATIMOP has previously signed dozens of bilateral R&D agreements with countries in Europe, North America and Asia including Chinese provinces.
