Daylight savings ends Saturday night

Daylight savings will end on Saturday night. Clocks will be put back one hour at 2 am Sunday, October 27.

People will have to manually adjust their mobile phones, and people who use them as alarm clocks may face additional problems with the time change. Mobile carriers are advising customers not to use their phones to wake up on Sunday morning.

Earlier this year, the government changed the switch to winter time to coincide with the switch in Europe: October 27. The change was not automatically recorded by mobile phones' internal clocks in Israel, and the change disrupted meeting schedules, alarm clocks, synchronization with workplace emails, etc. The solution was to manually update mobile phones' times to Central European Time, and then to make a second update to Israel time on October 27.

iPhones with the new Apple iOS7 operating system will not have to be manually updated, as their software has already been changed.

We will now have to wait and see whether the problem will reemerge with the switch to summer time next year, or whether the mobile carriers, in cooperation with smartphone manufacturers, will be able to make the automatic time change.
