Housing Minister: Gov’t must intervene to lower housing prices

Uri Ariel said after the cabinet meeting: There is no choice other than strong, aggressive governmental involvement to reduce the price of housing.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will hold discussions with the Minister of Construction and Housing and the Minister of Finance in order to examine the possibility of government intervention in land prices in Israel, reports Minister of Housing, Uri Ariel.

Ariel said: “These matters arose during cabinet discussions when the Minister of Housing presented the ministry’s plans for the Negev, and building the new settlements: Hiran and Kasif.”

Ariel said “I am glad that the Prime Minister decided to heed my request for involvement and to hold a joint discussion in his office with the Ministries of Housing and Finance. There is no choice other than strong and aggressive governmental intervention in order to effect immediate change, and to reduce the housing prices.”
