After 24 people applied for the post, the two named candidates are Adv. Uri Schwartz and Adv. Michal Halperin.

The search committee for a new head for the Anti-trust Authority presented its recommendation this morning to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is also acting minister of the economy. The two candidates for the post are Adv. Uri Schwartz, who is currently acting head of the Authority following the departure of David Gilo, and Adv. Michal Halperin, who is currently head of the Antitrust and Competition Group at the firm of Meitar Liquornik Geva Leshem Tal.

The search committee has five members: director general of the Ministry of the Economy Amit Lang, who heads it; Dr. Ayala Gonen, representative of the Civil Service Commission; deputy attorney general Adv. Avi Licht; Prof. Nina Zaltzman, as academic representative; and David Leffler, as public representative.

Twenty-four candidates applied for the post. After four meetings, the committee interviewed nine of them, and subsequently unanimously recommended Schwartz and Halperin.

"In the circumstances in which it finds itself, the committee saw fit to recommend two candidates, since each of them has an outstanding, special advantage, different from that of the other," the committee stated, "The committee's recommendation was delivered to the prime minister and acting minister of the economy today, and, after his decision on the identity of the chosen director of the Authority, it will be brought before the government for approval."
