Health Ministry committee finds fault in Eli Hurvitz's treatment

However, senior officials at the Health Ministry have reservations about the committee's conclusions.

Sources inform "Globes" that a committee appointed by the Ministry of Health to investigate the treatment received by the late Eli Hurvitz, the founder of Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Nasdaq: TEVA; TASE: TEVA), has it is believed, found fault in the work of the medical team that cared for him in the Internal Department of Tel Hashomer (Sheba) Medical Center. The committee, however, seems unlikely to recommend that personal conclusions be drawn against the hospital's director general Prof. Zeev Rotstein.

Although the committee completed its works two weeks ago, some senior personnel at the Ministry of Health have reservations about the conclusions and consequently they have yet to be published. Health Ministry ombudsman Prof. Haim Hershko has decided not to accept the recommendations and Health Ministry director general Dr. Ronni Gimzo feels they need to be amended. Senior figures in the Health Ministry are going over the report to formulate final conclusions, and the ministry insists that changing such conclusions is not exceptional.

The committee was set up following the demands of Hurvitz's daughter Vered who criticized the treatment her father received before his death. She claimed his treatment was defective, negligent and disrespectful. She said, "My father was simply not treated. They didn't relate to him just as a regular patient. The treatment my father received in the Interior Department was terrible at every level, medical and human."

The Health Ministry said that "The committee has completed its work and the recommendations will be submitted to the director general, who will respond only after updating the hospital and the family. An announcement will be published tomorrow."
