Accounting overwhelmingly male profession

CPA Institute VP Iris Stark: A flexible work environment suitable for working mothers will enable women with financial and technology skills to work in those professions.

There are three times as many men accountants in Israel as women, according to the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Israel. 8,631 men are registered with the Institute, along with 3,063 women.

CPA Institute vice president Iris Stark says that the low proportion of women CPAs reflects the low proportion of women in financial and technology positions in general. "Many women do not believe that they have the skills to work and succeed in these professions. The profession also demands long work days," she noted.

Stark said that employers should create a flexible work environment suitable for working mothers. This would enable women with financial and technology skills to work in a career-track in these professions.

Previous studies found that an increase in women's disposable income is linked to greater participation in the workforce. Every additional NIS 600 in disposable income brings an additional 25,000 women into the labor market.
